Web Design History
Web site design has come a very long way since the Internet's first website back in the early 1990's.
Like the Internet's first websites, the majority of sites are written in a language called HTML - Hyper Text Mark up Language.
HTML is a text and image formatting mark up language used by web browsers to dynamically format web pages.
Ever since the original conception of HTML, the Internet mark up language has accumulated
an array of other mark up languages, most of them are to save time and key strokes.
Many people use the same abbreviations in texting and instant messaging, and social networking websites. Acronyms,
keyboard symbols and shortened words are often used as methods of abbreviation in Internet.
Most advanced web designers use Languages such as PHP and others to produce modern, attractive and dynamic web sites.
Web Design Compliance & Standards
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main international
standards organization for the World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or W3).
W3C is the primary governing body for the web. W3C set out guidelines and offer verification
tools to ensure that your web-site is built using Industry Standard coding. The W3C also governs coding
languages such as XML, XHTML to name a few.

Open Source & 3rd Party Software
To enable cost cut in our web design we also utilise Open Source & 3rd party web design software.
Open Source is essentially software or web tools that have been developed by people and distributed for free
on the internet. Open Source software covers a variety of web design applications including blogging software
and e-commerce software.
- Wordpress - This is an Open Source blogging platform that requires at minimum, a basic
understanding of HTML to install. Wordpress is updated frequently by its' developers and is available worldwide
to the public.
- Zen Cart - This is a free E-Commerce shopping cart application that
literally has everything you need to be selling online.
- PayPal - Is becoming one of the most popular and safe methods of sending and receiving
money via the internet. Risbeys have experience with integrating and utilising PayPal.
- Google Checkout - A rival to PayPal, Google Checkout is Google's offering to
paying online. Risbeys are able to integrate Google Checkout into static and e-commerce web sites.
- Gallery Software - Adobe are now producing exports for the web on products such as Lightroom3 with great effect.
Whilst it make economical sense to use third party software and open source code. Some of these 3rd party products we have mentioned are very restrictive and have greater long term cost. In these circumstances we would recommend better alternatives and sometimes cheaper ones by us.
Website Design
The primary objective of a web site should be to meet the requirements of the client. In most cases this would be to attract then convert Internet users into customers, subscribers or in the case of charities, donators. The design of the web site is paramount to reassuring, educating and ultimately convincing the viewer that they have come to the right place, or that they have found what they are looking for.
Risbeys use a variety of techniques during the design of a web site. These may include any combination of the following:
- Hand Drawn designs - and conceptions are used to quickly produce layouts and visuals for the design.
- Photoshop - Can be used to produce mock-ups and the complete design.
- Dreamweaver - Is used to construct the mark up language that ensures a fast workflow from the design to the complete website.
- CSS - Cascading Style Sheets. CSS is used in conjunction with HTML to design and style the web site from a separate file. The use of CSS brings many advantages including advanced design features, lower file sizes and a universal styling document that updates the presentation and design of the site automatically from a single document. Implementing different look for different times of the year.
Once the design of the web site is in place, either as a mock-up Photoshop image or a coded HTML skeleton, the web site then requires developing.

The story telling of your day in images
Our approach to wedding photography moves to a style that is very much in touch with today's trends. We document the day, working unobtrusively when required and gently guiding the wedding to unfold naturally, capturing the magic as it happens.
Every wedding is an individual event, each composed with personalised details that go together to make your special day, special.
Each wedding receives our personal attention, and includes:
- Pre-wedding conference. Normally 6 months before
- Final wedding talk. In the week leading up to the big day.
- Your own web gallery of your images for you and your guests with online ordering.
- Post honeymoon meeting at our viewing studio in Darlington where you and our family can spend time viewing your images.
We work throughout the UK and internationally but operate mainly in Co Durham, Cleveland, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and Northumberland.
